The WSW has club rides for all abilities and is a good way meeting like minded individuals. It improves your riding technique and gives you confidence in riding within a couple which can be 20% more efficient than cycling by yourself!

Training Weekend in the Lincolnshire Wolds - 27 & 28 MARCH

We are looking at hiring two holiday cottages on a farm at Hemingby, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. They are large adjoining cottages set in a great location. Each cottage would comfortably sleep five people, and there is a nice pub within walking distance that does good food. The cost of each cottage is £100 a night - so that's a reasonable £20 per person (based on full occupancy). The location would be perfect for the training weekend a 50% deposit has been paid.

Peddars Way Pedallers‏

A number of Wheelers enjoyed the Peddars Way Pedal on Sunday (Jan 31), a rough-ride enduro-type event, starting from the World Horse Welfare venue at Snetterton.

Ken Jolliffe and Darryl Glover organised the event under joint CTC and Norwich ABC banners, and excellent it was. There were a multitude of distances to chose from, the route comprising a 44 mile loop, but with various cut-offs to suit all abilities and ‘leisure-pass’ durations. A great deal of the route was off-road, using a mixture of bridle-ways, RUPPS, ‘whites’ and official cycleways, including long parts of the Peddars Way itself. Conditions were surprisingly icy, and the ruts like concrete, as one of our number was to find out the hard way. Our contingent was made up of Richard and Robin Lines, Becca Asquith, Mike Stowe and his two sons, Adi Grimwood, Dr Tom (Southorn) and Barry Denny, with friends and prospective second claimers including Richards Emmerson and Muchmore.

The first day of clear blue sky and ever-present sun, since the recent bad spell of snow and ice, brought riders out in their hundreds. Well not literally hundreds, more metaphorically really, more than just a few to be precise, well alright then, 18.

Just being out on the bike brought a smile to almost every face, save perhaps for Mike Bowen who’d been suckered by a puddle concealing a pothole, which brought him crashing down 4 weeks ago, resulting in bruised ribs sufficient to keep him off the bike ever since, until today. Let that be a lesson to us all, - never ride through a puddle, ‘cos you never know what lurks beneath!

Those hoping to make up for lost miles were John Steed, Mark Eastwood, Richard Lines, Richard Balaam, new member Di Bellingham, Barry Denny, Peter Heath, Nathan Colman, Paul Barry, Richard Seggar, Jeff Agricole, Tony Panting, Mark Taylor, Boyd Nicholas, Mike Bowen, Dave Tilly and guests Glenn and Roger.

Team Sky Launch

Team Sky had their official launch on Mon 4th Jan, I had entered a competition via the social network site 'Facebook' and last Wednesday I received a text to say I had been successful I was 1 of 300 out of over 2000 who applied. The instructions at this stage were to be in central London by 0730 on Monday where I would receive a further text on where to proceed to the start point (there were 3 in total.) It was very cloak and dagger but the team were concerned to many cyclists would attend and the police would put a halt to the launch.
