Club Rides
|
The WSW has club rides for all abilities and is a good way meeting like minded individuals. It improves your riding technique and gives you confidence in riding within a couple which can be 20% more efficient than cycling by yourself! Best practice for riding in a group is covered by these guidelines |
Suffolk Punch cancelledYou don't need a weather forecast to see that today's reliability trial isn't going to take place. A look out of the window is all it takes. The snow came 24 hours too early. It's disappointing, but life goes on. Suffolk Punch 2012 isn't cancelled, it's postponed. We will reschedule it for another Sunday. The date will be confirmed soon, when we've looked at the events' calendar. The road between Felsham and Hessett is closed for repairs for three weeks from Monday February 13, so that has to be taken in to consideration. Watch this space. TOWIE CLUB RUN ... Sunday 12th February 2012
I am thinking of trying a special pre-Valentines Day club run for those who like it slightly harder and faster... West Suffolk Wheelers Off-Road Club Ride Winter Programme (revised).Interested in off-road riding? If so, the winter dates for the WSW & Tri off-road club runs are as follows:
The Regular club run starts at 9.00 and runs through to around 12.00 with an optional coffee and cake at one of the cafés afterwards. The terrain will be mainly off-piste and will be technically challenging in places. The pace will be reasonably hard as some riders will be aiming to improve their fitness and skill levels for the mountain biking and Cyclo-Cross season. The Regular club run will take place most Sundays except when clashing with the Winter Series or certain club events. There will also be a ‘Lite’ version of the off-road club run where the pace will be easy/steady and a focus on building confidence and developing bike handling skills. For January and February, there will one ‘Lite’ ride each month. Each ride will take place on a Saturday starting at 9.30 and finishing at around 12.00. There will also be an optional coffee and cake break during the ride.
Most of the club guidance that apply to the road rides are also applicable to the off-road versions. A few important points:

For four consecutive years riders from West Suffolk Wheelers travelled to the Italian coastal town of Cesenatico for spring training camps. In 2010 we had a change and went to Girona, Spain, but for 2011 we returned to Hotel Riz in Cesenatico for some more of that fabulous Italian hospitality. The Riz offers unrivalled value for money, and for 2012 prices stay the same as 2011. Feedback from riders who were part of the April trip has been very favourable, and so it’s back to Italy again in 2012. Non cycling partners are welcome and there’s plenty to see and do in Cesenatico; and the
