The Regular club run starts at 9.00 and runs through to around 12.00 with an optional coffee and cake at one of the cafés afterwards. The terrain will be mainly off-piste and will be technically challenging in places. The pace will be reasonably hard as some riders will be aiming to improve their fitness and skill levels for racing mountain bikes and Cyclo-Cross. In March, the Regular club run will take place every Sunday.
There will also be a ‘Lite’ version of the off-road club run where the pace will be easy/steady and the bike handling skills required will be lower. As a rough guide, we’ll try to stick to terrain than won’t be any more technically challenging than the types encountered on the red route at Thetford Forest. Currently, we plan to run one ‘Lite’ ride per month. Each ride will take place on a Saturday starting at 9.30 and finishing at around 12.00. There will also be an optional coffee and cake break during the ride.
Most of the club guidance that applies to the road rides is also applicable to the off-road versions. A few important points to remember:
- Safety. Your safety is your own responsibility. Wear appropriate protection and make sure your bike is suitable, mechanically sound and set-up appropriately (correct tyre types etc) for the demands of off-road riding. Just because you see others do something it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can – when in doubt don’t. Ride within your limits.
- Ride sensibly and with consideration to your club mates and all other road/track/bridleway users that we may encounter. Follow the appropriate rules (i.e. Thetford Forest, Highway Code etc).
- Carry necessary tools for emergency repairs, bring drink, emergency food and wear clothing appropriate to the conditions.
- Have fun!
