Calling all riders - Urgent and Important Publicity Opportunity!
We have just heard via Helen Ballam that Suffolk Sport have just won a funding bid for £500 000 from Sport England to promote cycling in the Eastern Region in the coming three years.
This news is about to break on Thursday and BBC Look East are preparing for it. They have contacted us and want to feature West Suffolk Wheelers as one of the most active clubs in the region.
We are hurriedly arranging a meeting of cyclists of all ages and disciplines to show them what we do, and provisional arrangements are to meet at Moreton Hall Youth Club on Wednesday Morning at about 10 am ~ as many riders in red shirts as we can muster!
We are not yet sure exactly what they will want, but we are hoping to organise a ‘ride-past’ of an orderly group of roadies, some youngsters doing Go Ride skills training and possibly a mock race, perhaps a rider or two training on turbos and hopefully an interview.
We really need good support from all those Wheelers that can make it. There is the possibility that this money could help us reach our club-room goal, but in any event it is doubtlessly going to help cycling in the region.
The above arrangements are PROVISIONAL, but will be CONFIRMED by another email tomorrow morning, when we know more ourselves.
Please let Barry Denny or Helen Ballam know if you are likely to be able to play a part.
