The Eastern Region Cyclo Cross season has got off to a very good start with bumper entries at the first two meetings of the season.

At the Sible Hedingham meeting Alan Trolove dominated the Under 16 event and lead from start to finish. Alice Maguire and Jade Taylor made their debut at the sport in the same event, and hopefully learned a lot in readiness for another bash. Unfortunately Adrian Grimwood fell in the vets event and twisted his knee badly. The bad news is that this will keep him out of action for many weeks.

The second meeting was held at the Springfield Sports Centre in Chelmsford. The course comprised a complex route around the football pitches, into and out of the woods, up and down the banks, including three dismounts each lap to run up the long flights of steps between the levels, and a strong wind made progress hard at times. The vets event is always run over 40 minutes and this week saw Mike Bowen make his debut and Barry Denny ride his first cross event for eight years! Mike started steadily and worked his way up to a creditable 28^th place, whilst Barry started optimistically in the top half but dropped back to 43^rd out of 65 starters. We were both shown how to do it by Alan Trolove, who stormed away from a big U16/U14 field to win by over a minute, and gain maximum league points again.

The next meeting is at Baldock on Sunday October 3^rd ~ who wants to join us?
