Steve Newman wins Roller Racing Trophy

The club’s Roller Racing Championship took place on Saturday Feb 27 at Stanningfield Village Hall. Perhaps the change of venue from the normal Horringer Hall caused the much lower than normal support that the event suffered, with only eight riders willing to suffer/enjoy the action. This took the form of fixed wheel bikes on rollers, all geared the same, and attached by the use of front fork yokes.

All riders recorded a qualifying time at the 500 metre distance and thereafter facing knock-out rounds, two riders at a time. Young Ed Ballam set a scorching time, but not quite quick enough to beat ace-spinner Mark Eastwood.

The heats saw Adrian Grimwood not quite able to catch fast-starting David Young, and Steve Newman triumphing over John Steed. Mark Eastwood got the better of ace veteran Ron Back, testing his not-so veteran new hip at 120 rpm ! Trish Dennison was awarded a bye over Ed Ballam, who felt he was in dire danger of seeing his recently devoured KFC again!

Mark Eastwood and Steve Newman won their semi-finals and met in the main final. This was very exciting, but crafty Steve reserved his biggest effort for this event and recorded the fastest time of the night to win the trophy.

Well done to all those that took part, and those that organised the event and provided refreshments and raffle prizes ~ just a pity there were not more members on hand to enjoy the evening.

Rollers Thursday 4th Start at 7.15pm

First Thursday of the month so we start at 7.15 pm don't arrive early as you will be waiting in the cold!  Mike 'Tri' Cross is arranging a pre turbo running session leaving the Youth Centre at 6.30pm all welcome

Turbo/Rollers Starts Thursday 14th January

Time to dust down your rollers / turbos Warehouse Wheelers starts again on Thursday 14th January at the Moreton Hall Youth club. Doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt start at 7pm. Some turbos are available for loan so please check with Barry / Paul

To cover the Hall Cost Adults £2 Concessions £1

James Wins The Roller Night with 76kph!

Horringer Village was the venue for the WSW Roller night, 17 riders took part in the event.  The first round was against the clock to establish a seeding for the remaining rounds.  James Carpenter showed that his track skills were what was required for this event and set a 24.51 with Steve Newman closely behind with 24.93.  The second round pitched James against Barry Denny (10th after 1st round) James conserved his energy and performed a ‘Cav’ style sprint for the last 25m.  The Final resulted in the two track specialist Steve v James and with less than width of the pointer between them James secured top spot with 24.05 with Steve just behind with 24.15!  A great evening was had by all, a big thank you to those that arranged, judged, provided refreshments and raffle prizes!

Gladiator at Warehouse Wheelers!

Last night (Thursday) was the first of the 6 week Warehouse Wheelers sessions at the Moreton Hall Youth Club.  12 members including a Gladiator enjoyed 45 minutes of music and encouragement supplied Barry including the odd riding style request.  This included the Sean Yates (down on the hoods with bent arms or something similar)! www.seanyates.co.uk/ We have room for a few more, so if you are interested in joining us Thursday night at the slightly later time of 7 o’clock next week only, for 45 minutes of spinning followed by recovery and stretching.   The club has a few spare rollers / turbo trainers so please contact either Barry or Paul to reserve yours!

Due to room hire cost is £2 and concessions a £1 a session

Back to 6.30p.m. next week!

Warehouse Wheelers on the Move!

For the past few years we have been holding Turbo Training Sessions at Denny Bros on Tuesdays, affectionately known as Warehouse Wheelers. The beauty of these sessions is that riders of all abilities can train together, in comfort and safety, and no-one gets dropped!


Now that the Autumn is upon us we have planned the sessions for this winter, but there are some changes, in particular venue and evening.

Now at MORETON HALL YOUTH CLUB which is adjacent to the Community Centre on

THURSDAY EVENINGS.

Arrive 6.30 for 7.00pm start, 45 minute session

followed by warm down and stretching.

For those riders that want to follow the programme there will be an overall plan to maintain fitness, improve cadence and riding position, but with some fun exercises along the way, not to mention a wide variety of music to encourage us.


Please bring your own bike and turbo or rollers if you have them. We will have some turbos and rollers to borrow, but will ask users to take them home and bring them back each week. It is essential to bring a towel and drink bottle.


To cover the cost of room hire we will charge £2 per adult, £1 for juveniles and concessions.


Everyone is welcome regardless of level of fitness


CLUB KIT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE BEFORE AND AFTER THESE SESSIONS.

About the West Suffolk Wheelers

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike.
