From 2010 the Club now includes the sport of triathlon in its activities. Considerable interest is being shown in the area, with new and established triathletes signing up for membership and enjoying our group training sessions. Organised swim training sessions, with a qualified swim coach, are held every Tuesday night at the Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, in Bury St Edmunds, from 8:15 for an 8:30 start. Two lanes are reserved for training and this costs £3 per session. The Club’s winter turbo training is held every Thursday night at the Moreton Hall Youth Club, Bury St Edmunds, cost £2 per session. Our triathletes now organise a pre-turbo run from 6:15pm, followed by the established, structured turbo session. This is now also followed by another short run for those who are really keen to hone their transition. Simon Bourne, well known, local, British Ultra Man Champion, should be our qualified Triathlon Coach within weeks, so the Club will then be well set up to cater for your every triathlon need. Members are already meeting to agree on events to enter as a team and discuss all things triathlon. Tri Club membership is growing all the time with around 20 members enjoying the swim training just weeks after the Tri Club was formed. A West Suffolk Tri suit has been designed by members and should be available soon. The design can be found on our website. If interested in our active Tri Club please contact Mike Cross on mike.wswtriathlon@gmail.com or Julia Jepson on jjulia@10@googlemail.com |

Nowton Park Cross Country ResultsA great day was had by the Wheelers cross country runners last Sunday at Nowton Park. A great turn out of 16 runners took to the deceivingly tough course. Although reasonably flat, it was very fast and head winds hampered pace in a couple of areas. Thanks not only to the runners but also the supporting Wheelers who came along to cheer us on. With two races left here are the results so far including Sunday's individual times and positions...
Cross Country Nowton Park - THIS SUNDAYJust a last reminder for the Cross Country event at Nowton Park on Sunday (22nd). I'm really pleased to say that we have quite a squad for the day, thank you to everyone taking part. We could do with a few more female runners though, so if you could encourage your club member; wives, sisters, mothers or daughters to join us that would be great! If you fancy giving it a go please drop me a line to adibarbrooke@hotmail.com or just turn up on the day, you'll find us huddled around the West Suffolk Wheelers banners! The Duathlon is based at Beyton Middle School in the village of Beyton. The village is between Bury and Stowmarket close to J46 of the A14. 4.4km RUN - 21.8km BIKE - 4.4km RUN Last Updated (Saturday, 14 January 2012 08:38) A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE WSW & TRI CLUB IN 2012Following on from the outstanding success of our competing junior triathletes in 2011, new Junior Triathlon Coaching Sessions will commence from Saturday 8th January 2012. A pilot group of 7 to 16 year olds will be put through their paces on a weekly basis under the watchful eye of our new junior triathlon coach, Rob Hasselder. Sessions will be geared around technique rather than speed or distance, but with triathlon being an endurance sport some hard work is to be expected. Please see attached for the results from round 2 of the Suffolk Winter (Cross Country) League. Unfortunately due to illness and dodgy Japanese engineering we fell short on ladies for a full scoring team, however we still had some great results...
Adi Barbrooke - 10th - 00:32:51
Martin Wilson - 16th - 00:33:33
Matt Shingleton - 21st - 00:34:10
Neil Hillier - 35th - 00:34:57
Iain Milligan - 53rd - 00:36:30
Jeff Agricole - 70th - 00:37:31
Julian Colman - 106th - 00:40:25
Chris Hinnit - 167th - 00:46:18
Dawn D'Amarco - 173rd (40th Lady) - 00:47:06
Nicole Moulam - 201st (59th Lady) - 00:58:14
The last three races are as follows...
Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds. 22nd January 2012.
Ditchingham, Bungay. 19th February 2012.
Haughley Park, Stowmarket. 4th March 2012
A scoring team consists of 7 men and 3 women and the more that cross the line the more points the team gets. Of the non-running clubs we are sitting second to a combined Ipswich and Newmarket Tri club team!!
It would be fantastic to have some more of the club's female members joining us for the remaining three races so if you fancy giving it a go please let Adi Barbrooke (adibarbrooke@hotmail.com) know.
