West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club
West Suffolk Triathlon

Following on the back of our very successful Duathlon, the West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club are proud to announce our first Sprint Triathlon based at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket. The event is being held on Sunday 30th September 2012. Entry is via Entry Central on line entry - http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=101388 This event is being run under the rules of the British Triathlon Federation.
The Triathlon comprises of a 300m pool swim, 18km bike ride and 4.4km run. The bike section is an undulating country route, and the run section is mostly off road and virtually flat. The swim section uses the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre 25m pool. Swimmers undertake the 300m swim, starting at half-minute intervals, swimming up and down each lane, and then moving under the lane ropes into the next lane. This process is carried out six times. Swimmers will be seeded according their swim times, with the slowest swimmers going off first. Try and be realistic about your swim time. During the swim section, should you be caught by the competitor behind, he or she will tap your foot to make you aware they are behind you. At the end of the length you are on, simply wait momentarily so they can overtake and then continue with your swim. Please do not obstruct those behind.

Congratulations to Adrian Grimwood
Congratulations to Adrian Grimwood who attended the British Cycling Awards Dinner on Saturday evening, having been nominated for a Volunteer’s Award. He was one of 17 recipients of these awards, given for outstanding service to cycling, in Adi’s case for his continued organisation of the Ixworth Crits, now recognised as a rare and successful example of a real street crit that is open to all categories of riders.
Adrianreports that there were over 500 attendees, including many international stars receiving their awards, and he managed to plug the event to several team managers and top riders ! It was a most memorable event, not least for the nightmare journey home from Birmingham on snow covered roads, eventually making it back at 4.30 am !
Well done Adrian, and Des, who shared the drive home.

TOWIE CLUB RUN ... Sunday 12th February 2012
9am (or earlier if majority wish) from HQ
I am thinking of trying a special pre-Valentines Day club run for those who like it slightly harder and faster...
The only way is Essex Club run to Poppy's Tea Room, Thaxted.
Lovely place Thaxted. Really nice Cafe stop by all accounts. www.poppystearoom.co.uk
65 miles ish in 4 hours 15 mins (including the stop)... 18 to 18.5mph average speed, mixed terrain.
It is SW of Bury, so likely to be out into the wind and back with tail wind ...
I will lead it and navigate it.
I aim to make it brisk, not stupid, but fun and with an enjoyable and different tea stop.
We will of course not race for primes ;-) or hilltops 8-)
So, anyone up for the TOWIE A+ ?
If enough people express an interest I will seek approval from the Club to run as a one off experimental A+ ride.
