Walden Tri
More trophies and another 2nd place
More trophies and another 2nd place overall this season in sprint triathlons for Julia Jepson.
Having had one win at Newmarket and four second places overall in her first five races this season, the triathlete scooped another age group win and 2nd place overall in the Walden Triathlon last weekend despite a torn calf muscle which meant the 5k run was more a hop and shuffle rather than a sprint. Even with a finishing time of over 3 minutes slower than last year when she won Julia had worked hard enough in the swim and bike sections to hold onto 2nd place helped by two quick transitions.
A member of the West Suffolk Tri Club since January Julia started the year with running in her first ever marathon finishing in a time of 3.28 hrs and will now have a 'good for age’ place in London next year. With bike training to a minimal and run speed training limited getting back to sprint triathlons seemed a bit harder than last year ( but then we could put that down to age!!)
Three male club mates also had exceptionally good results in a very popular and well organised event. The tough course consisting of a 750m pool swim followed by a 25k undulating bike course and a very rough and hilly 5k run didn’t stop the ever progressing Ben Mickleburgh put in a fine performance to take 5th place overall and 3rd in age group with a fantastic time of 1:14:33. Barry Whitcomb finished in 19th place in 1:25:47 with Paul Horsley in 20th place (2nd in age group) in 1:26:03.
In a race that attracts triathletes from all over the region this was a superb show of form from such a small number of West Suffolk Tri members. So come on you lot get competing!!
Although only a small response from the club re: swim /run this Friday it will go ahead- Please be there for 7pm ready to start ASAP. Help time keeping would be appreciated.
