Camgridge Triathlon
With five members competing at the Cambridge Triathlon at the Mepal Outdoor Leisure Centre on Sunday, the West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club’s colours were flying high.
The Olympic distance race consisted of a 1500m swim, 40 kilometre cycle and a 10 kilometre run. A clean and clear lake made for a comfortable swim and the quickest of the Wheelers to appear out of the water was Stephen Hodson in just over 22 minutes.
Hodson also proved to be quickest Wheeler on the bike, completing the 40km course in 1:08:17. Nicky Brinkman also prevailed on the bike course and a following strong run saw Brinkman cruise home to take the Female’s Gold medal. James Heath had another ‘good day at the office’ finishing 2nd in his age group.
Fastest of the Wheeler’s on the day, just pipping Hodson by a few seconds, was Martin Wilson who finished 27th overall and 5th in age group. Overall results: Martin Wilson 27th in 2:17:29, Stephen Hodson 28th in 2:17:34, James Heath 38th in 2:20:15, Nicky Brinkman 50th (1st Female) in 2:23:45 and Richard Daley 112th in 2:40:19.
